The Side Chair was the first industrially manufactured chair made of plastic. The polypropylene seat shell is recyclable. This makes this chair significantly more environmentally friendly than its earlier fiberglass design. Because modern furnishings and good design should also be measured by their climate friendliness.

Although the designers Charles & Ray Eames designed the DSW chair back in 1950, it has retained its position as a modern and practical designer chair to this day.
